Bathroom Renovation #2

Portfolio Categories: Bathrooms Renovations and Finish Carpentry.

This project involved the conversion of a room on the 3rd floor of a period home into a bathroom with laundry facilities.  We started by stripping the room down to studs.  From there we ran our plumbing, electrical and venting for fan and dryer.  After re-sheeting the floor, we insulated and installed vapour barrier, the tub was installed, and without skipping a beat, the room was drywalled and painted.  Next was tile, starting with the tub surround/soap niche and moving to the floor.  With electrical and plumbing finishing off, we shifted gears to cabinetry and built a custom cabinet with frosted glass doors, a custom bench seat which opens for storage and a built in shelving unit next to shower.  Once these were all painted, final touches and it was done.  Stunning!!!

On this project, we boarded the walls with cement board, waterproofed with Schluter Kerdi, tiled the surround with 3″x 12″ ceramic tile complete with accent border.  After grouting, the grout was sealed and the Fleurco glass door/shelving system was installed, complete with silicone alone all edges.  gorgeous!!

Bathtub Surround

On this project, the old tile was simply in poor shape, needing to be redone as well as the pump having failed years prior with no way to access it.  As such, we replaced tile and tile edge and new grout.  When combined with new taps and removable woodwork to better access pump/heater, this bathtub now has many more years of life.

Tile Floor #2

Tile in a kitchen is a wonderful choice for a floor.  Beautiful and durable, it will stand the test of time if installed correctly.  Here we removed the linoleum and 1/4″ underlay, and glued and screwed 3/8″ exterior grade spruce plywood to floor.  We then laid the tile, grouted and sealed the grout with Tilelab 20 year penetrating sealer.  Don’t worry about the wine spill!!
