Tile floor – Round cuts

Portfolio Categories: Tile.

Cutting tile precisely can be tricky.  Cutting tile on a curve can be even more challenging, especially keeping spacing consistent.  These few flooring tile jobs with round shower bases are good examples of the care we take in our installs.

VCT Floor

With this project, we forgot to take a before picture, but we levelled the floor with floor leveller and laid VCT tile with a chequered pattern.

Hardwood Floor with special transition

Portfolio Categories: Flooring.

On this hardwood flooring project, we installed 5 1/4″ Ash hardwood in a 12’x20′ addition that transitioned through the old back door as it came into the kitchen.  The doorway was challenging because it was concrete and therefore not able to be nailed and it dropped slightly to the linoleum on top of having a dip in the centre of the opening.

We fashioned a 2’x4′ frame to compress the flooring and did final compressing with shims.  The floor was glued with PL Premium and left overnight.  A beautiful floor with a beautiful transition!

Exterior Painting #2

Portfolio Categories: Painting.

This house hadn’t been painted in many years and the paint was failing badly.  We started with power washing the house.  As you can see from the pictures, we ended up taking almost all the paint off, basically right back down to brick.  From here, we primed the entire project, wood, metal and brick with Benjamin Moore Fresh Start latex primer.  We followed that up with two coats of Aura Exterior on all surfaces.  A classic set of colors, on a properly prepped and primed surface = a long-lasting, beautiful look.  Perfect!

Exterior Paint #1

Portfolio Categories: Painting.

Here we were asked to paint the front of the house.  After a thorough power wash, mortar was added where it was missing and facia/soffit boards were filled.  The house body was then painted with 2 coats of Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior, followed by two coats of Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior on the soffit/facia.  The before/after pictures say it all.

Bathroom Renovation #1

Portfolio Categories: Bathrooms Renovations and Finish Carpentry.

This project involved the conversion of a conventional washroom with bathtub, to a roll in barrier free washroom with shower.   With the room stripped down, the plumber started on the plumbing, installing a Toto wall hung toilet and Grohe shower valve, with wand and rain head.  The electrician added a pot light in the shower and a plug for the remote shower curtain opener.  The room was insulated for sound, boarded, taped and painted.

A custom sloped shower pan was formed, waterproofed with Schluter Kerdi, and tiled with 2×2 porcelain tile.  The walls were tiled with 12″ x 24″ porcelain tile with rectified edges, including a custom soap/shampoo inset shelf.  After grouting all tile work with TEC Power grout, we finished the rest of the bathroom floor in cork.  We re-installed the vanity, having customised plumbing and cabinetry to allow full wheelchair access.  Grab bars where then installed into pre planned backing and the custom electric shower curtain opener/closer was installed.

In the end, we achieved a stunning look, complete with functionality tailored to the needs of the home owner.  This renovation will allow them to remain independent and living in their home for many more years.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting

Portfolio Categories: Kitchen Renovations.

This kitchen was very dark and dingy.  We came in and after prepping the doors by sanding them with medium grit paper and wiping them down with a bleach/tsp solution, we primed them with Benjamin Moore Fresh Start.  We then applied two coats of Benjamin Moore Advance.  This Latex/alkyd hybrid ends up drying hard and resilient like conventional alkyd paints.  This paint job really changed the feel of the kitchen and will stand up for many years to come.

Heritage Mall Washrooms

This job involved painting the ceilings, walls and partitions in the bathrooms at the mall.  We started with patching holes/cracks in ceiling and caulking cracks in the corners and in the cinder block.  We painted the ceiling with Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling paint.  Next we rolled the walls with Benjamin Moore Aura and then the partitions with Satin Impervo Alkyd paint.  These paints are great choices for the mall as they will stand up to the rigours of public spaces, especially bathrooms.

Plaster repair #2

Portfolio Categories: Painting and Plaster Repair.

Old homes are beautiful, full of character, however unsightly cracks can quickly tarnish that feeling of charm.  Here we restored the walls to their original beauty, smooth and free of cracks.  In order to fix the crack correctly, we started by gouging out the cracks with our multitool back down to lath.  This is to ensure the new compound adhears to the lath for maximum bonding.  We then mesh tape the seem and then fill/patch the crack with 3 coats of setting drywall compound.  After sanding everything smooth, we primed with Benjamin Moore Fresh Start followed by two coat of Benjamin Moore Aura.  Good for many more years!

New Roof

Portfolio Categories: Rough Carpentry/Framing.

“We are tired of trying to unlock the door and getting wet, we want a roof!”, they said.   With that we took to building the framework for a steel roof for zero maintenance.  We matched the color of the roof to the trim on the building, and voila, protected from the elements!
