This project involved the conversion of a conventional washroom with bathtub, to a roll in barrier free washroom with shower. With the room stripped down, the plumber started on the plumbing, installing a Toto wall hung toilet and Grohe shower valve, with wand and rain head. The electrician added a pot light in the shower and a plug for the remote shower curtain opener. The room was insulated for sound, boarded, taped and painted.
A custom sloped shower pan was formed, waterproofed with Schluter Kerdi, and tiled with 2×2 porcelain tile. The walls were tiled with 12″ x 24″ porcelain tile with rectified edges, including a custom soap/shampoo inset shelf. After grouting all tile work with TEC Power grout, we finished the rest of the bathroom floor in cork. We re-installed the vanity, having customised plumbing and cabinetry to allow full wheelchair access. Grab bars where then installed into pre planned backing and the custom electric shower curtain opener/closer was installed.
In the end, we achieved a stunning look, complete with functionality tailored to the needs of the home owner. This renovation will allow them to remain independent and living in their home for many more years.
